How to speed up a video more than 2x in Canva

Last updated: 11 October 2026

Canva's own speed control stops at 2x. There are three ways past it: an app that works inside the editor (Video Speeder, 2x to 50x), the export and re-upload trick (4x, 8x and so on), or speeding the clip up in another editor before you upload it. If you want to stay in Canva and keep your design as it is, use the first.

Canva's speed limit

Select a video in your design and open the speed setting (Playback, or the Video speed icon). Canva takes a value between 0.25x and 2x, as its own help page says: Adjust video playback. There is no setting above 2x.

Way 1: an app inside Canva (2x to 50x)

Canva apps run in the editor's Apps panel, so the video never leaves your design. Video Speeder is an app for Canva that does this one job:

  1. In your design, open Apps and search for Video Speeder, or open its listing on the Canva Apps Marketplace.
  2. Select one video in your design.
  3. Choose a speed from 2x to 50x, on the slider or with a preset.
  4. Press Speed up. The sped up video replaces the one you selected. Turn on the option to keep the original if you want it added as a new element instead.

The audio is sped up with the video. The Free plan includes one video a month, up to 90 seconds long, with a result up to 45 seconds. You don't need a separate account. Plans and limits are on the Video Speeder page.

Way 2: export and re-upload (4x, 8x)

This works with Canva alone, one doubling at a time:

  1. Set the video to 2x.
  2. Choose Share, then Download, and download the design as an MP4.
  3. Upload that MP4 back into Canva and put it in your design in place of the original.
  4. Set it to 2x again. The clip now plays at 4x of the original.

Repeat for 8x or 16x. Each round is a new download and a new upload, the video is encoded again every time, and you can only reach powers of two (4x, 8x, 16x), not 5x or 10x.

Way 3: speed it up in another editor first

Open the clip in a video editor that goes past 2x (CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, iMovie and others do), set the speed, export it, then upload the result to Canva. If the video is already in a Canva design, download it first. This gives you any speed, but it means a second tool and an extra export and upload.

Which one to use

An app inside Canva Any from 2x to 50x No None
Export and re-upload 4x, 8x, 16x No A download and an upload per doubling
Another editor first Depends on the editor Yes Export, then upload to Canva
