Age Suitability
KelimeYAP EN · Last updated: 22 August 2026
The short version
KelimeYAP EN is an English vocabulary app. The App Store questionnaire, answered honestly, produces a rating of 4+. We set the rating to 13+ anyway, because the app shows ads and, with your permission, may use the device advertising identifier to personalise them, and we do not think an app that does that should sit under a label meaning "suitable for everyone". We do not target users under 13. The learning content itself contains no violence, no sexual content, no profanity and no gambling. There is no chat, no user-generated content and no in-app browser.
1. What the app is
KelimeYAP EN teaches English vocabulary with cards. For each word you choose I don't know it, I'm in between or I know it, and the app tracks your progress from there.
The content is a fixed, editorially prepared database: 5,420 words across the A1 to C2 levels and 1,297 idioms, based on the Oxford 3000/5000, Longman 3000 and OPAL reference lists. Each word carries a meaning, an English definition, example sentences and an image illustrating the example sentence.
The App Store category is Education. The app requires no account. You are never asked for a name, an email address, a phone number or a date of birth.
2. The age rating, and why we raised it
There is a difference between what the rating questionnaire calculated and the rating we chose to publish under. That difference is the main reason this page exists.
| App Store questionnaire result | 4+ |
|---|---|
| Rating we set for the app | 13+ |
Raising the rating was not required of us. We did it for three reasons, and none of them is about the learning content:
- The app shows ads, and where you allow it, the device advertising identifier may be used to personalise them.
- We do not target users under 13, and our Privacy Policy says the same. We do not knowingly collect data from them.
- Even though the content qualifies for 4+, we did not think an ad-supported app that can use an advertising identifier belongs under a rating that reads as suitable for every age.
How the rating appears in each store
On the App Store, the single rating we chose is converted by Apple into each country's own standard. These are not values we picked one by one:
| Region | Rating |
|---|---|
| 172 countries and regions | 13+ |
| Vietnam | 12+ |
| Brazil | A14 |
| Republic of Korea | 12+ |
On Google Play:
- IARC content rating: 3+ (PEGI 3, ESRB Everyone).
- Declared target audience: 13-15, 16-17 and 18+. The under-13 age bands were deliberately not selected.
3. What the content does and does not contain
The figures below are the result of scanning the entire database, all 6,717 word and idiom entries, not an estimate.
Not present
- No violent content.
- No sexual content and no nudity.
- No profanity and no crude humour. A profanity list was run against the database and none of it appears.
- No gambling, no simulated gambling, no loot boxes.
- No horror or fear themes.
- No user-generated content. Users cannot contact each other. There is no messaging and no social feed.
- No freely browsable web view inside the app. The only outbound links are the privacy policy, the terms of use and the support address, and they open in the device's own browser.
Present
Because the app teaches general English vocabulary, a small number of entries on the standard reference lists relate to alcohol or tobacco, for example wine, beer, cigarette, tobacco, pub and drug. They appear the way every other word appears: an entry with a definition and an example sentence. Nothing in the app encourages, glamorises or endorses their use. These words are part of the core Oxford and Longman English lists, and a learner will meet them in ordinary English.
The app also contains advertising and an optional subscription. Both are described below.
4. Advertising
The app shows Google AdMob ads in three formats:
- A card marked Ad placed between the study cards.
- A rewarded video the user chooses to watch. Watching one is never required.
- A banner below the example sentence panel.
Full-screen interstitial ads are deliberately not used at all. That is a product decision, not a temporary state.
Consent is requested before ads are personalised: Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt on iOS, and Google's UMP consent screen in the European Union and the United Kingdom. If you decline, ads are not personalised and contextual ads are shown instead. Declining restricts no feature of the app.
Users with a Pro subscription are shown no ads at all.
5. In-app purchases
There is one subscription, called Pro, available as a monthly, three-monthly or annual plan. Pro removes ads, lifts the offline card limit and removes the in-app limits.
The learning loop itself is never behind a paywall. Studying the word cards is free.
Family Sharing is enabled on all three plans. The purchase itself takes place on Apple's own payment sheet; the app never sees or stores any payment details.
6. Data and privacy
The full text is in the Privacy Policy. In short:
- The app requires no account. No name, email address, phone number or date of birth is requested.
- Your identity in the app is an anonymous identifier (a UUID). It contains nothing that identifies you as a person.
- No location data is collected and GPS is not used.
- You can erase your records at any time with Delete My Data in Settings.
- The ad provider (Google AdMob) collects its own technical data. The details are set out in the privacy policy.
See also the Terms of Use.
7. For parents and teachers
The app does not include parental controls and does not verify age. We declared this to the App Store as well, and we would rather say it plainly than imply a protection that is not there.
What does exist are the controls built into the device itself, and they apply to every app, including this one:
- iPhone and iPad: Screen Time can restrict which apps can be downloaded by age rating, and Ask to Buy can require your approval for in-app purchases. Parental controls · Ask to Buy
- Android: Google Family Link can apply comparable limits, including content restrictions and purchase approval. Family Link
